Supt. Reed: Thrilled to read Gov. Beshear's aerospace message It's all about the kids and future economic development: These are exciting times to be an ACHS student!, Supt. Reed says. In 2016-2017, Adair County High School will join the High School Aerospace/Aviation four year career pathway leading to an industry certification in one of four areas of aerospace., the 27th program in Kentucky, and the FIRST in the NATION with the new National Aviation/Aerospace program, headquartered in Kentucky. There will be no tripping over county lines in this one: Adair will has graciously been invited by existing programs at Metcalfe County and Taylor County to join in competitive efforts. There's a hint in this article of a major new development with KCTCS in IT and 3-D printing. Response to: Gov. Beshear signs resolution to launch Kentucky Aviation/Aerospace By Alan W. Reed, Superintendent, Adair County School District I was thrilled to read Governor Beshear's resolution, and once again Adair County High School is leading the way for other high schools by preparing students careers in the Aerospace industry - manufacturing, design, airframe and power plant repair, and professional flight school. Kentucky is now second in the nation, behind Washington state, in aviation manufacturing. Aviation manufacturing, alone, is now a 7 billion dollar a year industry. We don't assemble the big Airbuses or Boeing's, but we make the engines and brake assemblies. Aerospace manufacturing far surpasses the automotive industry. I call it the "quiet industry", and it continues to boom. Next year, ACHS will be join the Aeronautics/Aviation group of high schools Next year, 2015-16, our first group of students will work with 27 other high schools, plus NASA, UK, Morehead State University, KCTCS, AOPA, Eastern KY University and other entities as we integrate a full-pledged career pathway leading to certification and career readiness. Classroom facilities will be at C/AC Airport We are entering into an agreement with Columbia-Adair County Airport for use of the facility for classrooms and maintenance space. Just last week we met with a team from Metcalfe County Schools who are interested in joining us, and just yesterday, March 3, 2015, the ACHS cadre met with Taylor County High School's Aerospace Academy to plan activities together, involving wing design competitions. Adair County Public schools are evolving into powerful economic engine New partnership with KCTSC in formative stage, right now Right now, we are in the process of forming a new partnership with KCTCS in IT and 3-d printing technology. Our eyes are set on preparing our students fom high tech, high paying jobs (each with an industry certification) straight out of high school, that may likely lead to even more certifications after graduation. CTE teaches students that design and innovate is the new "cool" Career and Technical Education (CTE), which teaches students to design and innovate is the new "cool" and provides Adair County students will skills they could once have only dreamed of. We appreciate the warm reception from regional businesses and industries and our own community at large as we move forward. These are exciting times to be an ACHS student! -Alan Reed, Superintendent, Adair County Schools, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY 42728 This story was posted on 2015-03-31 08:52:55
