COLUMBIA, KY - Jordan Hood's career-high 17 strikeouts highlighted a doubleheader sweep for No. 6 Lindsey Wilson softball with Pikeville (KY) Saturday afternoon, March 29, 2015, at Lindsey Wilson Park.

The Blue Raiders opened with a 13-4, five-inning victory in the opener and used a pair of home runs late in the second game to complete the shutout victory 5-0.

Abbi Goedde led the Blue Raider offense with two home runs and four RBIs. Andrea Whelan added a home run and had five RBIs on the day.

In the first game, Lindsey Wilson (21-6, 5-2 MSC) scored two runs in the first inning when Whelan singled in Chelsea Showers. Amanda Trampe then added an RBI single scoring Whelan.

Pikeville's (9-9, 3-5 MSC) offense got going by scoring four runs in the second frame. With one out and the bases loaded, Haley Jo Patton hit a two-RBI single that scored Eady Beth Connally and Hollie Hinkle.

The Bears scored two more runs following an RBI single and sacrifice bunt. Bryan then struck out Brandi Jo Howard to end the inning.

The Blue Raiders managed to regain the lead by putting up seven runs in the bottom half of the second. Whelan scored Ericka Clifford and Jenna Firestein on a single, followed by an RBI single from Trampe, which scored Showers.

Lindsey Wilson continued to put pressure on the Bears in the inning as Travatia Bowden reached base on a Pikeville error that scored Whelan and Trampe. Goedde then stepped up to the plate and cranked a two-run home run over the center field wall on a 3-2 count. The Blue Raiders led 9-4 heading to the third inning.

The Bears managed to put baserunners on, but could not manufacture anymore runs the rest of the game. Bryan found herself in another bases loaded jam in the third, but a fly out to right-center field by Patton ended the Pikeville threat.

The Blue Raiders added four more runs in the fifth inning as Showers knocked in Firestein on a single. Bailey Mize later gave the team the walk-off victory due to run rule after doubling to left center field scoring Showers, Ashley Evans and Trampe.

Bryan (8-2) retired six of the final eight batters and gave up four earned runs on six hits, while striking out six.

Hawley Ill (3-3) lasted only 1-1/3 innings giving up eight earned runs on eight hits and striking out just two.

In the second game, neither team was able to find a way to score early as Hood and Sydney Morris battled for supremacy in a pitcher's duel.

Pikeville had a runner in scoring position in the second inning after Pineda doubled to right center field, but Hood struck out two-consecutive batters followed by a Whitney Back ground out to end the inning.

The Bears offense added some pressure again in the third as Kayla Brown and Howard each reached base. Hood was able to nail down Pikeville's offense again after striking out Ill to end a second-straight Pikeville threat.

The Blue Raider's offense was held in check as the team did not record its first hit until the third inning when Firestein reached on a two-out bunt infield single.

Lindsey Wilson finally found a rhythm in the sixth inning by putting up five runs. Firestein and Showers started the rout by reaching on infield bunt singles. Whelan then sent a shot to dead center field for a three-run home run on a 0-2 pitch. Mize later singled in the inning and Evans, pinch running for Mize, scored when Goedde added her second home run of the day on a full count.

The Blue Raiders took a comfortable 5-0 lead into the seventh inning. Hood who had been in a groove the entire game struck out the side to end the game.

Hood (7-2) pitched seven innings giving up three hits and walking four, while striking out 17.

Hood retired five-consecutive batters on two different occasions, which included nine total strikeouts. Her previous career-high of 14 strikeouts came on Feb. 21 in a 7-0 win over Albany State (GA).

Morris (4-5) pitched 5-2/3 innings and gave up five earned runs on six hits, while striking out six.
