AC School Board, District Facility Planning meeting still GO DESPITE SCHOOL CLOSING WEATHER CONDITIONS: Adair Schools CLOSED today, but business functions, including Special Called School Bord Meeting at 8amCT, and District Facilities Planning (DFP), tonight, Thu 26 Feb 2015, will be held as scheduled. Special ColumbiaMagazine.com report Adair County Supt. Alan W. Reed, after announcing CANCELLATION of school this morning, call to stress that the Special Called School Board Meeting at 8amCT, will be held and that the Adair County District Facilities Planning (DFP) Committee meeting at 6pmCT, tonight, both at the Adair County Board of Education Central Office Conference Room, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, will still be held. "Both are urgently important," he said. He said that the public and media are welcome to attend the board meeting, but that an announcement will be made after the board meeting is over. The District Facilities Planning Committee meeting is equally important he said, and encouraged the public to attend. He said that road conditions are spotty, but checks on KY 206 found roads in that area treacherous enough to cancel school district wide. Ironically, he said, Transportation Director David Jones had not found icy roads in the northern end of the county prior to 5amCT. "Between us," he said. "David Jones and I always check the usual suspects first: The higher elevations around Knifley, around Sparksville/Breeding, KY 768 along the Keltner to Sparksville to Fairplay area, and, of course, KY 704/Fairplay Road." The district is now going through a rapidly buildup in technology, he said, and there will be a day in the not too distant future when every Adair County Student will have adequate broadband access and adequate school and/or personal handheld devices to just switch to internet interactive classes on a day like today, but that will take changes in Kentucky law, and investment in technology. "Fortunately," he said, "Our district is moving ahead in technology, guided by Director of Technology Steve Turner and his technology technician Jason Rector and assistant technology technician Trey Grider. "As we beef up the department with a District Technology Engineer," he said, "we'll be making quantum leaps. Soon it will be streamlined." As for the District Engineer, he said, "There will be a posting of the position and we'll certainly pick the best qualified and best suited for the job. But I will tell you this: there is qualified, available talent right here in Adair County. We aren't worried about the filling the position with a well qualified individual." - ED WAGGENER This story was posted on 2015-02-26 05:30:07
