Robert Koch: Wants information on Dr. Gabbert Home at Roley Robert Koch writes: 'I wonder if anyone can tell where Zachariah Gabbert's home and medical practice was located in the Casey Creek area?' Dr. Gabbert's practice was in Casey Creek - Roley - north of Knifley in Adair County, KY. Click on headline for complete query with photo(s) By Robert Koch, Brier, WA The accompany photo is the family of Dr. Zachariah Taylor Gabbert. He practiced in Casey Creek for around 50 years. This picture is taken at his home in Casey Creek. From left: Lunsford Yandall Gabbert, Alma Gertrude Gabbert (my grandmother), Mont Robertson Gabbert, Mary Louise Gabbert, Lorena Grace Gabbert, Frank Gabbert. Missing is another son, Fordyce gabbert also an MD, Seated is Dr. Zachary T. Gabbert. Both he and Fordyce died in 1934. Zachariah's wife Agatha Robertson Gabbert had died in 1927. My grandmother taught school in Knifley in a one room schoolhouse in 1906-07. This was while she was also attending Lindsay Wilson school herself. She would teach part of the year to earn the tuition for her own schooling, then work to catch up on her studies when not teaching. Mont Gabbert was the only college graduate, attending Transylvania University. He earned a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Chicago and finished his career as professor and the first head of the Philosophy Department at the University of Pittsburgh. Before this he was an ordained minister and served as one of the clergymen at the Roley Church where the Gabberts attended. I think only one of the children of this family didn't teach school at one time or another. I wonder if anyone can tell where Zachariah Gabbert's home and medical practice was located in the Casey Creek area? Thanks for any information, Bob Koch, Brier, WA This story was posted on 2015-02-22 15:11:56
