CU Football Signs 26 Campbellsville University Football Signs 26 high school seniors on national signing day. By Jordan Alves, Campbellsville University Sports Information Campbellsville, KY -- Coming off its first Mid-South Conference Championship since 1996, Fighting Tiger Football had a few big shoes to fill and did so today. Head coach Perry Thomas and his coaches took another step towards continuing the Fighting Tiger foundation and announced the signing today of 26 players on National Signing day. The fax machine was printing out letters of intent all day long, with the majority coming in the morning hours. "We are very pleased with our initial day of spring signing," said Thomas. "We were able to address some needs and add some depth at positions we lost last season. This class is very talented on the field and also in the classroom. I am excited for the remainder of the spring." Fighting Tiger Football is coming off an NAIA Playoff appearance and will return multiple skilled players to boast a team with a lot of upside on the offensive line. Campbellsville was the fifth-ranked offense in the league last season, averaging 418 yards from scrimmage and were led by quarterback Jacob Russell and senior wide receivers Trevon Chatman and Demytreus Gipson. The trio broke multiple records en route to a Mid-South Conference West Division Championship. CU lost both receivers but will bring back Jarrod Harrington, who was third on the team in receiving and rushing yards. Russell will also return for his senior year after averaging 272.7 yards a game and throwing 28 touchdowns. CU's defense lost 2014 MSC West Division Defensive Player of the Year Daniel DeLeon and also all-time leading tackler Blake Young to graduation. Thomas and recruiting coordinator Vincent Davis both think the football program took a step in the right direction after today's National Signing Day. Players who did not get the offers from other programs will still continue to trickle in and sign throughout the spring and summer months which has all the coaches excited about spring practice and the preparation for next season. All of the 2015 signees, both high school and transfers, will be introduced to Fighting Tiger fans at CU's Maroon and White Game in April. Campbellsville will open its 2015 schedule with University of the Cumberlands on Thursday, Aug. 27 under the lights at Finley Stadium for a 7 p.m. EDT kickoff.
