Whitfield votes to repeal Affordable Care Act - Obamacare See also, opposing viewpoint in Washington Post article: With latest Obamacare repeal vote, GOP sets 'record’'for futility By Marty Irby News from Marty Irby WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, voted today for the passage of H.R. 596, a bill that would repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and health care-related provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010. In addition to repealing "Obamacare." in its entirety, this legislation also lays the groundwork for the appropriate Committees of jurisdiction to craft a serious, common-sense health care alternative. Whitfield, who was an original cosponsor of H.R. 596, issued the following statement upon passage. "Obamacare has been a disastrous policy," said Whitfield. "The reality of this law is one trillion dollars in tax hikes, seven hundred billion dollars in Medicare cuts, tens of thousands of pages of new regulations, higher premiums, dropped coverage, and still forty-two million uninsured. This law needs to be repealed and replaced with common-sense alternatives that will strengthen our health care system and empower patients with more choices."
