Contested Mayoral Election: No news yet from Adair Judicial Center As of 2pmCT, Wed 21 Jan 2015. Is the matter over, or just beginning. We should know in the next few days. Mayor Hardwick is settled into office, confident that he will be able to fill out a fourth term. Challenger Ben Arnold believes his case for a new election will prevail. By Ed Waggener There were no new development in a check at the Circuit Court Clerk's office at around 2pmCT, yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 on the contested Nov. 4, 2014 Columbia Mayoral election. According to a Deputy Clerk, Annetta Burton, neither H.K. Cooper, attorney for Mayor Curtis Hardwick, nor Elmer George, attorney for write in candidate Ben Arnold, had filed motions and no new Court Event is scheduled in the matter at this time. Mr. Hardwick has now settled in as mayor, confident that the election will withstand any challenges, and is conducting business as though the matter is settled. Mr. Arnold said in an interview Wednesday, that motions would be filed shortly, and he believes that a new election will be ordered. If our understanding is correct after requesting the update, the first motion would come from Mr. George, and when or should he enter a motion, a response would likely be entered from defense attorneys and then a hearing would be scheduled by Circuit Court Judge Judy Vance. From what we understand, the continuance of the challenge is up to Mr. Arnold and his attorney. CM will make occasional checks to keep readers posted on the issue.
