COLUMBIA, KY - A day after being named the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week, freshman Michael Pixley has been named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. It is the first national Wrestler of the Week honor this season for the Blue Raiders and fourth in program history after Joe Cozart, Keaton Thomas and Jameel Bryant each received the honor last season Pixley, a native of Blue Springs, Missouri, put forth a perfect 5-0 record at the National Wrestling Coaches Association NAIA National Duals on Jan. 9-10, helping Lindsey Wilson to a fifth-place finish at the event. He began his day by pinning James Smith and helping Lindsey Wilson upset No. 10 Missouri Valley. Pixley, who is unranked at 184 pounds, then upset top-ranked wrestler Christian Mays of No. 1 Grand View (Iowa). He is one of two Blue Raiders to win a match against the three-time defending national champion Vikings. Pixley added a 16-6 major decision over Baker’s (KS) Bryan Guillen, followed by a 3-2 decision win over sixth-ranked LJ Grayson of No. 6 Indiana Tech. In his final match of the weekend, he won by technical fall 21-6 over Brocky Leidecker of Cumberlands (KY) to help Lindsey Wilson secure fifth place. This story was posted on 2015-01-14 16:28:13
