COLUMBIA, KY. The 22nd-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Berea (KY) 81-64 Monday night at Biggers Sports Center behind a suffocating defense that forced 23 Mountaineer turnovers.<



In the first half, both teams traded baskets early. Michelle Montgomery scored the first four points of the game for the Blue Raiders, but Berea took a 10-6 lead with 14:53 left in the first half. Lindsey Wilson (14-4) then found a rhythm going on a 23-4 run in a span of six and a half minutes ignited by Chanel Roberts who scored a basket, followed by a three-pointer.

With 8:20 left in the first half, Ashley Johnson made a three-point basket, which forced a Berea timeout. The Blue Raiders led 29-14.

With 2:53 remaining in the first half, Montgomery made two-straight baskets followed by a three-point basket by Cassidy Martin. Lindsey Wilson led 41-24 with 1:50 left in the first half. Berea (7-6) then scored seven-straight points to close out the half. The Blue Raiders led 41-31 at the break.

Lindsey Wilson shot 41.0 percent in the first half, while Berea posted a 60.9 percentage from the floor. The Blue Raiders scored 19 points off 18 Mountaineer turnovers in the first half, and tallied 14 steals.

In the second half, the Blue Raiders stayed aggressive sprinting out to a 9-2 run ignited by two three-point baskets by Martin. Lindsey Wilson led 50-33 with 14:57 remaining in the game.

With 12:29 left in the game, Berea went on a 14-6 run to cut the deficit to 13 at 63-50. Martin then hit a three-pointer, followed by six-straight points by the Mountaineers. Berea then made a three-point basket as the Blue Raiders led 72-59 with 3:35 left in the game.

Berea was unable to make a comeback as the Blue Raiders scored eight of the game's final 12 points.

Roberts scored 21 points to lead the team, while Montgomery scored a career-high 18 points and tallied six rebounds. Martin also posted double-figures with 15 points including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Jamie Roberts led the Mountaineers with 17 points and Johnesha Warren added 16 points. Lindsey Wilson shot 43.7 percent from the floor, while Berea recorded a 47.3 percentage from the field.
