The Campbellsville University Lady Tigers host Fisk University on Monday, January 12, 2015, at 5pmCT/6pmET, in the Powell Athletic Center, 201 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY 42718. By Richard RoBards KANSAS CITY, MO - A 16-1 record and wins over ranked or receiving votes opponents in four of their last six games have propelled the Campbellsville University Lady Tigers to a No. 3 national ranking in the latest NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Bouncing up two spots to No. 3, the Lady Tigers boast a Division I-best 16 wins on the year, including a run of six-straight. Campbellsville's only setback came on December 4, 2015 at Mid-South Conference rival and then-No. 19 Lindsey Wilson, 68-66. Campbellsville hasn't been ranked this high during Colvin's tenure since the final regular season poll of the 2010-11 season when the Lady Tigers were voted in at No. 2. "We've had a great start to the season, but our toughest work is ahead of us with our remaining slate of conference games," said coach Ginger Colvin. "Out of our eight-team league five schools are ranked and two others are receiving votes. "We're going to need to continue to improve, if we expect to finish as strong as we've started." Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) owns the No. 1 ranking. The Lady Lions (13-1) received nine first-place votes and 250 total points in the second regular-season edition. No. 2 Oklahoma City (7-1), accrued the final first-place vote and 242 points to hold its spot for a second-straight poll. The defending national champion Stars saw no ill effects from a 23-day layoff, downing NCAA Division II Lubbock Christian (Texas), 85-81, in their return to action on January 1. Rounding out the top five are No. 4 Westminster (Utah) with 226 points and No. 5 Oklahoma Baptist with 211 points. The Mid-South Conference leads all leagues with five programs represented - Campbellsville, No. 13 Cumberland (Tenn.), No. 17 Shawnee State (Ohio), No. 22 Lindsey Wilson and No. 25 Georgetown. Both the University of the Cumberlands and Pikeville are receiving votes. Since the last poll, Campbellsville has beaten three current ranked opponents: No. 24 Carroll College, No. 4 Westminster College and No. 14 MidAmerica Nazarene. CU also has wins over then-No. 18 Xavier University and former No. 16 Cumberland University, which is now ranked 13th, as well as wins over Cumberlands and Pikeville. The poll is voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The second regular-season edition of the Top 25 Poll will be announced on January 13, 2015. - News from Campbellsville University This story was posted on 2015-01-07 05:55:28
