He reminded the capacity crowd that they are a blessed people, and reminded the officers to be sworn in to compromise and come together for the good of all, and taking a text from I Timothy 3, 1-13, he reminded the elected officials of the qualities needed of all who would be overseers.

Circuit Judge Judy Vance takes oath of office

Holding her hand on the Bible held by her oldest daughter, Courtney, Circuit Judge Judy Vance was the first official to take the office of 29th Judicial Circuit Judge for a second term. Judge Vance was elected in 2010, over strong opposition for the judgeship, which serves Adair and Casey County. In 2014, she was re-elected without opposition. The oath was administered by Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge Debra Hembree Lamberth. It was the first time an Appellate Judge had attended an inaugural event in Adair County, Circuit Court Clerk Dennis Loy said in his opening remarks. Mr. Loy can be seen in the right background. At left, background, is Columbia City Councillor Charles Grimsley.

District Judge Michael Loy sworn in for third term

District Judge Michael Loy spoke with Columbia VFW Post Commander Joe Hare after taking the oath of office for a third term as 29th Judicial District serving Adair and Casey Counties. His son, J.T. had the honor of holding the Bible on this occasion. In 2007, his wife, Robin Cheatham Loy had that honor, while hold daughter Amber as a baby. Amber had the honor in 2011. Robin Loy is hold their youngest, Ashley, who would be next in line for the job in 2019. Since the first election, Judge Loy has faced no opposition.

My Metcalfe County High School friend Jackie Coffey, wife of Fifth District, wondered why my husband held the Bible during the Swearing In Ceremony and she hadn't, so Mr. Coffey agreed to to restage the oath and Jackie agreed to this photo, for the record. To Billy Green's great credit, in an otherwise perfectly orchestrated event, he had been told of this new procedural option. Gregg Caldwell takes the oath of office as 6th District Magistrate, with his brother, Rev. Michael Caldwell, holding the Bible and brother George Caldwell at his side. County Judge Mike Stephens administered the oath. Mr. Caldwell succeeds the longest serving, of the past court, Magistrate, Joe Rogers. A side note, both Mr. Caldwell and County Judge Executive Mike Stephens broke an old political belief that those who serve as school board members in Adair County never get elected to countywide offices. Both were school board members years earlier.

Hadley served an earlier term representing the district, taking office in 2007. Hadley comes from one of Adair County's most distinguished political families. His father, Ben Hadley, served District 3 - in Southeast Adair County, for many years, as a Democrat. Terry Hadley, is a member of the Republican party, as are all of the class of 2015, but in recent decades, the party affiliations have not seemed to matter; coalitions may, but one is rarely aware of partisan affiliations. -EW
