Mamie Gladys Cowan, 88, Adair County, KY (1926-2014)

She was the matriarch of a large, highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Zack and Emma Susan Willis Burton, and the widow of Elvin Cowan. She leaves 52 direct living descendants.

Mamie Gladys Cowan, 88, a resident of Summit Manor Health & Rehab, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 4:15pmCT, in the Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room, Columbia, KY.

Funeral service will be Friday, January 2, 2015 at 12pm noon CT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster officiating. Burial will be in in Bearwallow Cemetery, Bearwallow Cemetery, 6090 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation after 4pmCT, Thursday, January 1, 2015.



Grandchildren will serve as casket bearers and honorary casket bearers


Mamie Gladys Cowan, 88, Adair County, KY (1926-2014)

She was born Monday, February 8, 1926, in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Zack and Emma Susan Willis Burton. She died Tuesday, December 30, 2014, in Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 22 days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Cowan in June 1988; three children, Darrell Lynn, Ricky and Mike Cowan; and three grandchildren.

Survivors include:
  • Seven children: Ronnie (Judy) Cowan, Barbara (Jerry) Jones, Betty (Larry) White, Kay (David) Turner, Faye (Donald) Stotts, Dale Cowan, Billy (Reba) Cowan all of Columbia, KY

  • Three brothers: Harold and Donald Burton both of Columbia, Phillip Burton of Florida

  • Two sisters: Dollie Burton of Columbia, Sue Burton of Indiana

  • Special daughters-in-law: Bonnie, Charlene & Sandy Cowan

  • Seventeen grandchildren

  • Twenty-eight great-grandchildren

  • and one great-great grandchild

  • Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
