Driver faces many charges following wild chase in Russell Co., KY

Chase starts in Jamestown, KY after Jamestown PD officer attempts to stop driver on US 127 bypass. Driver flees toward Russell Springs, KY. Russell County Sheriff's Office, Russell Springs Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, and finally, after fugitive driver leaves car to flee on foot, KSP K-9 unit called in. He was apprehended at the 67 mile marker on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway by Russell Springs Police Chief Joe Irvin, arrested and place in the Russell County Detention Center, facing multiple charges

Shortly after 11pmCT, Friday, December 26, 2014, Officer Jeremy England of the Jamestown Police Department attempted to stop a silver 2003 Saturn for a traffic violation on US 127 just north of the 127 Bypass. Officer England activated his emergency equipment and the driver of the vehicle attempted to flee from Officer England at that time. Officer England pursued the vehicle, and was aided by Deputy Dustin Bunch of the Russell County Sheriff's Office.



The driver exited the Parkway, northbound on US 127 with Deputy Bunch pursuing and Deputy Bertram terminating due to mechanical issues with his cruiser and Office England taking secondary. The 2003 Saturn proceeded east on KY 80 with officers having to back of pursuit due to traffic and losing sight of the vehicle.

KY F&W Officer Wayne Wilson joined chase

Officer Wayne Wilson of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife encountered the vehicle and joined pursued. The driver left the vehicle and fled on foot.

Units from Columbia KSP Post, CVE and K-9 join hunt

After units from Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement arrived on the scene, a K-9 was dispatched to the area.

Tpr. Martin Wesley of KSP Special Operations Unit arrived on the scene with his K9 unit to attempt ot locate the driver.

Driver apprehended by Chief Joe Irving of the RS Police Department

The driver was apprehended by Chief Joe Irvin of the Russell Springs Police Department at the 67 mile marker of the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. Officer England placed the driver under arrest at that time.

The driver was identified as Charles D. Northern, 42, Russell Springs, KY.

Northern was charged by Officer England with the following:
  • Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st degree, motor vehicle

  • Wanton endangerment, three counts, first degree, police officer

  • Operating a motor vehicle on a suspended/revoked license

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 2nd offense (aggravating circumstance)
Northern also faces charges from Deputy Bunch of the Russell County Sheriff's Office. He was lodged in the the Russell County Detention Center.
