Hilda McQueary wins Support Local Businesses prize By Ellen Zornes Chamber director The Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce concluded its first annual ‘Support Local Businesses Promotion’ with the lucky winner being drawn by Brenda Mann, Chamber president, at the Chamber of Commerce Office, 201 Burkesville Street. Hilda McQueary was the winner of the $200 prize money donated by First and Farmers National Bank and Duo County Telecom. Ann Martin, said, "We at First and Farmers National Bank are pleased to be able to help promote local businesses and congratulations to Mrs. McQueary." Eric West, said, "Duo County Telecom is proud to be part of the business community and encourage the folks in the community to continue to support their local businesses." The idea for the promotion came from the Chamber’s Board of Directors to help our local business and professional people and centered around the national ‘Shop Small Business Saturday’. We wanted our promotion to be longer than one day to help increase local buying and support. The Support Local Businesses Promotion was held to highlight the importance of shopping locally to keep our community’s dollars in our community where three times as much money stays in the local economy when goods and services are bought locally. Mrs. McQueary’s name was drawn from hundreds of names that had been registered at the 84 participating local businesses and professional services who are members of the Columbia-Adair Chamber of Commerce.
