The talk of the town was economic development after news of CACEDA's meeting spread throughout the community yesterday morning. Generally, the buzz was optimistic. One point of contention was wondering why the board would choose to hold its Planning Workshop in Campbellsville, KY instead of Adair County.

Holly Grimsley, the EDA's Ambassador, who will be the facilitator of the meeting, said it's simply a matter of focus and productivity. "The real reason we want to be a short distance out of Adair County is that when we're here, it's too easy to get to comfortable and pop in and out of the meetings. The group simply has to be focused on the goals of the planning session." She continued, "The location in Campbellsville in the United Citizen's Bank community building will be provided at no cost to the EDA. Members will pay their own expenses to travel the 18 miles there. It's not so far from Green River Commerce Park, and it will provide the atmosphere for a very productive meeting."

The meeting is a public one, though Grimsley acknowledged that not many visitors may want to attend. There will be an announced briefing for media following the meeting, at a time to be announced, the media has been assured.

Grimsley told the EDA members they are to bring three written items to the meeting: 1) A Question which is a high priority. 2) One goal for the Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Authority to include, and 3) One resolution they want to offer.

When the meeting is over, Grimsley said, "We want to have all the data we need have a plan - a plan which will provide answers to questions prospects will have when we get them to Columbia. That's key, she said. "When they ask questions, Having a good plan is a good answer. Not having a plan is not a good a answer." Grimsley said that she's happy members of the community questioned the decision. "It shows they are involved. We don't see the concern as criticism, but as constructive input and this will happen, and should happen, every step of the way. The community does need to know that we're keenly aware of the need for public support of our actions - that was evident with every decision made at the Tuesday morning meeting. But we're also aware that they are demanding action. They are insisting we produce tangible achievements. "All of us are very aware of the unmatched assets Columbia and Adair County has to offer. We're committed to presenting them in the most compelling way to the prospects. In the past she said, the authority might have taken three months to reach the decision they did yesterday in one hour. Planning and goal setting might have consumed months of discussion. On January 20, she said, the authority expects to deliberate, decide and lay out clear goals and means to create real economic growth.
