Howard E. Poindexter, 85, Cumberland Co., KY (1929-2014)

He was a member of The Lehman Ave. Church of Christ, an Army Veteran of the Korean War attaining the Rank of Corporal, a licensed Barber, a licensed Real Estate Broker and Appraiser, a member of the American Legion post in Burkesville, Kentucky, a Kentucky Colonel, and a founding Partner in W K Y R Radio station in Burkesville, Kentucky. He was a native of Cumberland County, KY, the son of the late Edgar Crittendon "Crit" and Montie Madison "Maude" Poindexter.

Mr. Howard E. Poindexter, age 85, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends 2pm\CT on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at The Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, Kentucky until 6amCT on Wednesday, the body will then be taken to lie in state at the Greenwood Park Church of Christ from 10amCT until services at 2pmCT. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 2pmCT, at the Greenwood Park Church of Christ, 1818 Campbell Lane Bowling Green, Kentucky with Rev. Chris Patterson and Bro. Mike Tanaro officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Hill Mausoleum, 1940 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, Kentucky.



Mr. Howard E. Poindexter, 85, Cumberland Co., KY (1929-2014)


He was born on Thursday, August 22, 1929 in Cumberland County, KY, the son of Edgar Crittendon "Crit" and Montie Madison "Maude" Poindexter. He died Saturday, December 6, 2014 at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky, at the age of 85 years, three months, and 14 days.

He was a member of The Lehman Ave. Church of Christ, an Army Veteran of the Korean War attaining the Rank of Corporal, a licensed Barber, a licensed Real Estate Broker and Appraiser, a member of the American Legion post in Burkesville, Kentucky, a Kentucky Colonel, and a founding Partner in W K Y R Radio station in Burkesville, Kentucky.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Smith Poindexter; his son-in-law, DuWayne Northey; his grandson, DuWayne Northey, II; his brothers, Johnny Arnold Poindexter and Earl Clayton Poindexter; his sisters, Oleta P. Norris and Reba Poindexter; his nephews, Earl Clayton Poindexter, Jr., David Poindexter, Ricky Lee Poindexter and Bruce Reid Norris. He is survived by the following:
  • His daughter, Captain Karen Smith Poindexter Northey Warren and her husband Greg of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany

  • His son: Stephen Howard Poindexter of Burkesville, Kentucky

  • His granddaughters: Autumn Leigh Northey of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; and Macey Grace Poindexter of Burkesville, Kentucky

  • His special friend, Joyce Norris McDaniel of Louisville, Kentucky

  • His nieces: Marleen (and Gary) Murphy of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Kathy (and Bert) Perdue of Nashville, Indiana

  • His nephews: Michael Arnold (and Terri) Poindexter of Franklin, Indiana; Mark Poindexter of Martinsville, Indiana

  • Sisters-in-law: Maxine Radford, Drusilla (and Clifton) Allen, Stanna (and Ernest) Page, Betty (and Duane) Williams

  • Brother-in-law: Leon (and Faye) Smith, and a host of "Smith" nieces and nephews whom he also loved.
