Kentucky's Agriculture Commission James Comer toured the campus and portions of Adair County High School's Technical Education program today, November 25, 2014 with State Reprentative Bam Carney. After talking with Health Careers instructor Jennifer Carter, Comer reminisced about his days as a Monroe FFA officer competing with (now) ACHS Vocational Agriculture instructor Mr. Randy Rexroat.

The group was joined by Welding/Metal Fabrication instructor Barney Taylor, also a member of the ACHS Vocational/Technical Education team. Commissioner Comer and Representative Carney noted the many opportunities the new satellite campus will bring to the Adair County economy and also commented on the long history of Vocational Agriculture excellence in Adair County Schools.

David Jones, Transportation Director, personally operated the school bus for the campus-wide tour highlighting numerous campus improvements.

Taylor thanked his CTE team-mates Kirby Hancock and Randy Rexroat for loaning materials and space for a good portion of this first semester. "Without them, it would have very difficult," he commented.

We have gained 3 new instructors, two salaries being paid for by the Office of Career and Technical Education, now guiding all CTE programs at ACHS."

Rep. Carney added, "The satellite campus of the Lake Cumber Area Technology Center is the first of its kind in Kentucky. I think we can look at this center is a model for how vocational-technical education can affordable be integrated into Kentucky schools and our economic engine."

The grand opening and celebration is tentatively scheduled for mid-January, 2015, to include a ribbon cutting by Governor Steve Breshear and Education Commissioner Terry Holliday.
