Support local businesses promotion Nov 29 - Dec 13, 2014 Promotion November 29-13, 2014. Dates noted in CM Events. Shoppers invited to register for $200 cash prize. Article by Brenda Mann, Chamber Vice-President As we approach the busiest holiday shopping season, the Columbia-Adair Chamber of Commerce takes this opportunity to ask that you join us in promoting and supporting our local businesses. To celebrate community businesses, the Chamber is sponsoring a two week "Support Local Businesses", Promotion. The shop local campaign kickoff date is November 29 and ends December 13. This two week event highlights the importance of our local businesses and encourages our community to shop at Columbia and Adair County businesses. During this promotion, local participating Chamber businesses will be offering shoppers the opportunity to register to win $200 cash donated by Duo county Telecom and First & Farmers National Bank. To register, look for the "Support Local Businesses" flyer displayed in the windows of participating Chamber businesses. Remember the more you shop the better chance you have to win! According to the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, small businesses make a significant contribution to the local economy. In fact, small businesses are responsible for the majority of job growth in the Commonwealth. When we shop, eat and have fun locally we invest in our community by sustaining businesses owned by friends and neighbors who live, work, pay taxes and support Columbia and Adair County. By spending locally more of your money remains at home supporting the local economy, community job creation, infrastructure, libraries, recreation, schools and other amenities and services that make our community a great place to call home. Shopping local also supports our local heritage of unique and one-of-a-kind businesses and services that distinguishes our community's character. Local businesses are the backbone of our economy! On a dollar-for-dollar basis, the local economic impact of independently owned businesses is significantly greater than that of national chains. Three times as much money stays in the local economy when you buy goods and services from locally owned businesses. - Brenda Mann This story was posted on 2014-11-19 13:50:34
