Adair County Greening - the period of renewal and revival

2018-02-20 - from Union Cemetery, 174 Milltown Church Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Union Cemetery, itself, is so loved and cared for, so full of history, it's a destination place in itself. But from its prominence, spectacular and oh-so-gentle vistas, each seemingly more interesting than the rest. This one, seen Sunday, February 18, 2018, gave the reassuring feeling that fertile limestone farmland is greening, that this is a time of renewal and revival, both in the earth and in the little country church just around the corner at 3041 Edmonton Road, where revival gets underway tomorrow night, Wednesday, February 21, 2018. The John Deere tractor added to the occasion, and there was a certain geometry to the recently assaulted line of the black green Eastern Red Cedars, the perfect fence line in this area, which made us hopeful, though there must be a better way. - EW

Hunter Durham: Stopping the bus on icy Muldraugh Hill

Hunter Durham writes:
Stewart Saniford, who drove the Greyhound Bus from Columbia to Louisville and back 5 days a week told me this story: The roads were covered with snow and ice and when he reached Muldraugh Hill headed to Louisville, it was blocked by police barricaid and he could not stop and went on down the hill slipping and sliding when a lady says "Mr. Bus Driver, let me off this bus!" He replied, "If I could stop this bus I would get off too." - Hunter Durham

Kentucky Color: Rolling Fork from Muldraugh Hill

2018-02-20 - From Scotts Ridge Overlook, between Campbellsville and Raywick, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge, President, Homeplace on Green River.
There's quite a view of the Rolling Fork River nestled against the Muldraugh Hill Escarpment, from this vantage point. A landmark worth visiting on a day trip in this area of majestic beauty, can be seen off in the distance setting atop its mini-knob with its small steeple brightly lit by the mid-afternoon sun. Named after the Patron Saint of workers, it is simply called Saint Joe. Although it pales in comparison to most of the majestic brick and stone structures of other parishes in the area, it seems to softly speak peace and comfort to all who stop and ponder its serene simplicity. St. Joe is in a direct line across that marshy pond, on the left side of the photo, across the Rolling Fork and just short of the base of the gun barrel ridge protruding Northward. You can see the white church with it's black roof and short-fat steeple and community center on its North side. It is not the house on the right side of the pic with black roof and silo nearby. - Billy Joe Fudge

President, Homeplace on Green River

Muldraugh Hill is a Central Kentucky Landmark which geographically separates the Bluegrass Region from the Mississippi Plateau which includes the Great Wooded South here in South Central Kentucky.

Muldraugh Hill in reality includes the Floyd Knobs region of Southern Indiana and stretches Southward to near Elizabethtown and then meanders as a true escarpment Eastward toward Crab Orchard in Lincoln County.

'Wayfaring Stranger' - weighs in on defensive weaponry

The mammoth and mastodon no longer roam these sacred hills and hollows; the blood-thirsty sabre toothed tigers last frequented the forests here long ere Colonel Casey crossed the creek; and even Old Rob, an alleged latter-day terror of some repute, has retreated into naught more than an uneasy now and anon dream occasioned by the gullible over-listening to a thrice-told tale. - WAYFARING STRANGER
