PIKEVILLE, KY - The No. 19-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team scored on their first six offensive possessions to power past Pikeville (KY) 44-14 on Saturday afternoon, 20 Sep 2014, at the Hambley Athletic Complex, 120 Championship Drive, Pikeville, KY.

The Blue Raiders move to 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in the Mid-South East with the conference-opening victory. Pikeville falls to 1-3 on the season with the loss and 0-1 in MSC play. Lindsey Wilson has now won all five meetings between the two teams.

After Pikeville stalled on their opening drive, the Blue Raiders took over on downs and moved the ball into Bears' territory thanks to a juggling 32-yard catch by Chaz Barnes. The completion sent Branden Cresap over 1,000 passing yards on the year. A 14-yard run by Jalen Sublett put the ball inside the five-yard line and Cresap punched it in on the ground for the 7-0 lead.

On the ensuing possession, the Blue Raider defense held Pikeville to a three and out. Lindsey Wilson moved the ball down the field, converting a fourth down with a catch by Emilio Gonzalez. The Blue Raiders capped off the drive as Cresap rolled to his left and connected with Barber who made the third-down grab near his feet and was able to cross into the end zone with 14:53 to play in the second. It was Cresap's 12th touchdown toss of the year and Barber's fifth reception touchdown.

Pikeville answered by moving the ball on the ground before the Bears scored on a jump-ball touchdown toss to cut the lead in half at 14-7 with 9:26 to play in the second quarter.

Lindsey Wilson drove down the field on their next drive, converting a fourth and eight along the way. Cresap tossed his second touchdown of the day as Tavis Elzy leapt high between a pair of defenders to make the 17-yard scoring grab, finishing the eight-play, 60 yard drive with 3:13 before the half.

Following a Pikeville punt, Lindsey Wilson got the ball on their own 24, but a penalty moved them back to 14-yard line with one minute to play before the half. A Cresap scramble for a first down, followed by a Cory Davenport run and Carmetrick Ross catch put the ball on the UPike 34-yard line with two seconds to play.

Caleb Keeton trotted out for his first field-goal attempt of the season. Following a pair of timeouts, Keeton kept his cool, lined up his kick and crushed a school-record 51-yard field goal. The previous record was set by Mark Corbett’s 48-yard field goal on Aug. 31, 2013.

The successful kick gave Lindsey Wilson a 24-7 lead at the break.

The Blue Raiders took the second-half kickoff and marched the ball down the field on a 12-play drive capped off by a Dakota Brown rush to give Lindsey Wilson the 31-7 advantage.

Pikeville elected to go for it on their next possession on fourth down from Lindsey Wilson’s 40-yard line, but an incomplete pass turned the ball over on downs.

The Blue Raiders would take advantage as Cresap led the squad down the field once again, finishing the drive with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Josh Noel, his first-career touchdown grab.

The Lindsey Wilson defense got in on the scoring action as Alex Abner intercepted a tipped ball and returned it all the way for the score, giving the Blue Raiders a 44-7 lead in the third quarter.

Pikeville’s next two possessions were cut short after the Blue Raider defense came up with a pair of fourth down stops, including a failed 4th and 2 from Lindsey Wilson’s three-yard line.

After the stop, with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Blue Raiders were forced to punt for the first time.

Pikeville would use the short field position to their advantage, using a pair of Millar rushes to score their second touchdown of the day.

Pikeville’s final possession of the game ended after another failed fourth down conversion, the fifth turnover on downs forced by the Blue Raider defense. Lindsey Wilson outgained Pikeville 368 to 256 on the day, limiting the Bears to just 89 yards through the air. The Blue Raiders compiled 24 first downs compared to 14 by Pikeville. Lindsey Wilson gave up just their second sack all season in the win.

On the season, the Blue Raider offense is now averaging 49.5 points per game.

Cresap finished the day 23-for-31 for 271 yards and three passing and one rushing touchdown. He has now thrown for 9,214 yards in his career. Barnes went over the century mark with 104 receiving yards on four catches.

Pikeville’s Seth Millar led the team offensively with 93 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. R.J. Rosemund threw for 57 yards while Tyler Guffy passed for 32 yards and a touchdown. Shawntex Johnson caught the lone reception touchdown for the Bears.
