Guy Babin: Senator-Elect Wise could have been more gracious

A note from CM: All media reporting the 'press conference' story acted responsibly, including the WAVE and CM and other broadcast sources. Senator-Elect Wise should have directed his indignation at the source who called in the story to broadcast sources. At next Tuesday night's Fiscal Court meeting, perhaps that source will explain how the media received the information. At that meeting, the public should also know whether the funds are 'new' state grants or funds which virtually every other county in the receives (usually called Discretionary Funds) and is announced by the County Judge Executive in each county. If it is 'new' money, we're grateful. If the announcement proves to be political manipulations of the funds, and it's simply political maneuvering, the public will know. Even though Guy Babin is right that honest mistakes are made, the original story was not a mistake. The blame lies solely with the original source. Still, we appreciate Mr. Babin's understanding of the problems facing local media. - ED WAGGENER

Guy Babin writes:

Perhaps Senator-Elect Wise has never made an honest mistake . . .

I do tread on fragile footings here not knowing the "rest of the story"; but I do find it highly unlikely anyone in our community involved with publishing the referenced story did so with malice, ill will, or subversive political deceit.

I find the Senator Elect's terse and overly harsh public statement inappropriate and not commiserate with one who understands and identifies our community and our public media - it's genuineness, its sincerity, and yes; its lack of big city sophistication.

Senator-elect Max Wise - A more humble response would have let us know that not only was an honest mistake made, but that you are a man of grace and class.

You should fit in well in Frankfort . . . and D.C.
