Occupational Tax: Doesn't like how Council handling tax issue Thinks there may soon be two payroll taxes, as there are in Campbellsville Jamey Hayes writes: I hope the voters show their appreciation for the council members for this tax . The taxpayers in Campbellsville has to pay two of these taxes one for the city and one for the county .It will be only a matter of time we will be paying two as well. The way the council slipped this through looked suspect to say the least. - Jamey Hayes To Jamey Hayes - Thanks for your comments. However, this tax is still in the process of going through the legislative process, at a very deliberate pace, and everyone can still be heard before and if it is enacted. The council has set aside an Informational Hearing for the citizens air their feelings, on Monday evening, September 8, 2014, at 6amCT, at City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. The city released copies of the proposed ordinance in advance for everyone to read. The Revenue Committee, June Parson, Craig Dean, and Robert Flowers have presented their findings. Both those findings and the proposed, WORKING COPY of the proposed ordinance are online. And, finally, the vote on the ordinance will come at a regularly scheduled City Council Meeting, at 6pmCT, Monday, October 6, 2014, at City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, at which citizens comments can be made. So it won't be "slipped through." As for how citizens of Columbia vote for the members of the next Council and Mayor, that's still qualified voters wonderful right. - ED WAGGENER This story was posted on 2014-09-04 21:05:59
