Mike Stephens: No press conference; plans to be at Fiscal Court Mike Stephens gives statement to ColumbiaMagazine: Mike Stephens called ColumbiaMagazine.com to say that the term "press conference" for the announcement of the road funds to be announced Tuesday night at Adair Fiscal Court is too strong a term and that he in no way wants to take credit for the funds which Rep. Bam Carney will announce at Adair Fiscal Court on Tuesday night. Stephens, who has been at his mother's side at Summit Manor in Columbia over the past several hours, said that the credit is due Rep. Bam Carney and Magistrate Billy Rowe. "I was glad to go to Frankfort with these two elected officials to learn more about working with State officials to get badly needed funds for our county." He added that, if at all possible - if pressing family matters don't preclude it - he does intend to be at the court meeting when Rep. Carney presents the paperwork to the court. "Billy Rowe asked me to be there early, but it's not a 'press conference.'" he said, and added, "It's not about my campaign. Bam Carney is the man who deserves the credit," he said, "and Billy Rowe." He said that both of these men are Republicans, but he wanted to stress that this is not a partisan matter, it is a community matter. It's not a matter who gets the glory, it's what's getting done for the county. "I will say," he added, "that I was impressed with Rep. Carney, who really knows his way around Frankfort, and is well known and liked in Frankfort by the right people. I support Mr. Carney - I support any elected official who can get things for Adair County." Michael Stephens did not say how much money will be announced. "That's for Bam to announce," he said, "but it is considerable." Pressed, he said that it is in the $100,000's of thousands of dollars. And, he emphasized - "it's extra money we would not otherwise have gotten." And, he said, "Max Wise was in no way a part of the story. But I do look forward to working with him and any other elected official of either party after the election. I may have further comments later. But for now, I will be with my family."
