Theft from Burton's Salvage leads to indictments and arrests

By Deputy Adam Cravens

The Adair Sheriffs Office concluded an investigation Tuesday, September 2, 2014, after taking two men into custody. The investigation began in August when Deputy Adam Cravens and Sheriff Harrison Moss were notified of a theft at Burton's Salvage in Columbia in early August. A tip led Cravens and Moss to a second salvage yard where the stolen property had been sold for scrap. After presenting his investigation Deputy Cravens was given two return indictments on Brandon Cooper, 25 of Columbia, KY, and Markus Yardberry, 18 also of Columbia.

Both were formally charged and placed into custody September 2, 2014. Charges on Cooper and Yardberry include theft by unlawful taking under $10,000, criminal mischief 2nd degree, and criminal trespassing 2nd degree. Cooper was also charged with persistent felony offender 1st degree. Cooper and Yardberry are lodged in Adair County Jail. --Deputy Adam Cravens
