ACHS 2014 improves ACT scores to 18.4 compared 17.8 in 2013

The English score of 17.8 matched the highest score in that category in the past five years and was an improvement of 1.4 over the 2013 English score, the biggest gain of any of the tested subjects. The math score remained the same as 2013 at 18.2. Reading improved from 18.0 in 2013 to 18.7 in 2014 and science showed an overall gain of .5, up from 18.1 to 18.6. - PHYLLIS CURRY

The 2014 graduating class of Adair County High School posted higher ACT scores in three of the categories tested and remained the same in the fourth subject. The overall composite score for last year's graduates was 18.4, compared to 17.8 the previous year.

These scores reflect the administration of the ACT when this class took the test as juniors unless students took the test multiple times and paid for additional testing. The state pays for every student to take the test as a junior and those are the reportable scores unless the student chooses to take the ACT again in an effort to improve scores.

Students who do not meet college admission requirements on the ACT have multiple opportunities to meet admissions criteria their senior year by meeting benchmarks on other tests such as Compass and KYOTE.
