She was a native of Russell County, KY, and a resident of Russell Co., KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Leonard Ard & Luinda Gosser Withers and the widow of Edwin Owens. She leaves 23 direct living descendants. She was a homemaker and a member of the Carter Ridge Baptist Church.

Zella Owens, 90, of Russell Springs, died Thursday, August 14, 2014 at her home.

Funeral service for Zella Owens will be 1pmCT, Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, with Bro. Josh Owens and Bro. Reggie Tipton officiating. Friends may call after 4pmCT, Saturday. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery.


Pallbearers: Cody Lawson, Brian Lawson, Jesse Owens, Wesley Thompson, Jeremy Stearns, Owen Tipton, and Evan Tipton.

She was born December 4, 1923 in Russell County to the late Leonard Ard & Luinda Gosser Withers. She died Thursday, August 14, 2014, in Russell Springs, Russell County, KY, at the age of 90 years, eight months, and 10 days,

She was a homemaker and a member of Carter Ridge Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Owens; three brothers, Arlus "Shorty" Withers, Golden Withers, Trulen Withers; and three sisters, Rose Thomas, Geneva Richardson, infant sister.

Survivors include the following:
  • Son: Bro. Richard (Mary Jo) Owens, Windsor, KY; Daughter: Judy (Gary) Wilson, Russell Springs, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Ricky Owens, Tony Lawson, Teresa Thompson, Kim Lawson, Ashley Tipton

  • Fifteen grandchildren

  • Two great great grandchildren

  • Sister: Margie Roy, Russell Springs, KY
