Jon Halsey on Somerset Mayor's statement on city gas sales

Comments re: JIM: Why's natural gas sales great, gasoline sales Socialism?

By Jon Halsey
Personal commentary

The mayor's remarks are typical of politicians rhetoric.

I would ask just how many Natural Gas utilities were in operation in Somerset when the City opted to go into the Natural Gas business.

There is a vast difference in government filling a void versus government using taxpayers money to compete against the taxpayer.

If the Mayor and Council are convinced that the private stations are gouging the public, then why haven't they done their jobs and used the legal means provided to stop the practice.? It seems evident that the answer might be found in the mayor's comment: "We’re going to start out small. Where it goes from here we really don’t know.”

I suspicion there might be a certain air of avarice or covetousness in the City\'s actions.

Been wrong before, probably am again. - Jon Halsey
