Robert P. Coffey, Casey County, KY. , KY (1923-2014)

He was the patriarch of a large, respected Casey County, KY, family. He was a farmer and sawmill worker for Tarters. Robert loved bluegrass music and Bill Monroe. He was the son of the late Proctor Ellis and Bessie Coffey Miller. He was the widower of Ruby Shell Coffey. He leaves 26 direct living descendants.

Robert P. Coffey, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Somerwoods Nursing Home. He was 90.

Funeral services are 12pmCT/1pmET, Saturday, August 2, 2014, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Clifford DeHart officiating. Burial will follow in South Fork Cemetery in Casey County. Visitation is Saturday from 11amET. until funeral service.



Pallbearers are Rodney Coffey, Brian Martin, Brandon Martin, Tyler Harvey, Isaiah Coffey and Terry Popplewell. Born Monday, August 27, 1923 in Casey County, KY, he was the son of the late Proctor Ellis and Bessie Coffey Miller. He died Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and two days.

He was a farmer and sawmill worker for Tarters. Robert loved bluegrass music and Bill Monroe.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Shell Coffey, who died February 28, 2008; and sisters, Rose Oldham and Lorene Roy Chapman.

Survivors include:
  • A son: James M. (and Jan R.). Coffey of Faubush, KY

  • Two daughters: Shirley A. (and Rick) Lynn of Russell County, KY; and Dorothy L. Coffey of Faubush, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Shelia K. Martin , Renea (and Stacy) Grant, Rodney J. Coffey , Shana L. Harvey and Natasha Richardson

  • Eleven great-grandchildren: Brian (and Lisa) Martin, Brandon Martin, Ashley Davenport , Mindy Davenport, Jessica D. Coffey, Katelyn L. Coffey, Isaiah J. Coffey , Lakota Harvey, Tyler J. Harvey, and Payton and Blakley Richardson

  • Seven great-great-grandchildren: Spencer, Lindsey, Shelby, Brian, Tatum, Tucker, and McKinley

  • Three sisters: Marie Coleman of Louisville, KY; Ruth Butler of Indiana; and Nellie Coleman of Liberty, KY

  • Two brothers: Reuben (and Nordene) Miller of Indiana, and Newell Bryant Miller of Ohio
