Vonnie Kolbenschlag identifies butterfly as Red Admiral Fall Festival at Homeplace on Green River will have information about butterflies, native plants Comments re photo 55952 Wildflowers in Your Landscape A butterfly bonus By Vonnie Kolbenschlag The butterfly in Joyce's photo is a Red Admiral. The host plants of the larva stage of the Red Admiral are plants of the nettle family. Larvae of different kinds of butterflies feed only on certain plants called their host plant. In the adult stage as a butterfly with no chewing capabilities, only a tube through which to suck, usually flowers supply nectar. The Red Admiral prefers sap flow on trees, fermenting fruit and bird droppings as a choice nourishment, but will suck flower nectar if the previous is not available. The Fall Heritage Festival on Homeplace on Green River, 5807 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY, which gets underway at 7amCT/8amET, with activities all day, Saturday, September 6, 2015, will have information about butterflies and native plants. - Vonnie This story was posted on 2014-07-20 16:09:15
