Joyce Coomer shares interest in native plants

Alicia Bosela, will be selling native plants at the 8am-1pmCT, Saturday, July 19, 2014 Farmers Market on the Square, Adair Annex Parking Lot , 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY

By Joyce Coomer

I would like to meet this lady as we share an interest in native plants. A lot of my summer flowers consist of whatever comes up on its own in the yard and I mow around -- much to Greg's dismay!

This year there have been black-eyed Susans, Queen Anne's lace, butterfly weed, wild petunias, daisies, sand briars, bind weed, a few dandelions, violets, wild strawberries and assorted clovers.

The pasture was full of bee balm a week or two ago, and I'm sure there are other native plants blooming there that I can't see because of the goldenrod running down the fencerow. - Joyce M. Coomer

Thanks, Joyce Coomer. Would love it if you would share a photo of that garden. There seems to be more interest in native plants than one would at first imagaine. Both Lindsey Wilson College and Homeplace on Green River, as well as Clay Hill Memorial Forest, have done much to stimulate interest. As noted, Alicia Bosela will be at the next Farmers Market on the Square. For those few who might not know, Joyce Coomer is co-owner with husband Greg of Printing Creations, 110 N Monroe Street, Columbiai located less than a block from FM2. - EW
