KY 55 in Lebanon resurfacing, lane reconfiguration underway State reduces number of lanes, 4-to-3, on KY 55 (Walnut Street) in Lebanon, KY Click on headline for complete story> By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer KY Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (July 1st, 2014) - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract crews continue asphalt resurfacing throughout District 4 counties, including KY 55 (Walnut Street) in Lebanon. Along with a new surface, the street will be reconfigured with recommended "Road Diet". Due to the narrow configuration of four lanes and the high number side swipe crashes, traffic engineers recommend changing the existing nine-foot lanes to two lanes with a center turning lane. The new driving lanes will be 12' each and the center lane will be 14'. In addition to addressing the close proximity of parallel and oncoming traffic, the new configuration will also leave space on outside shoulders, separating vehicles from utility poles along the curb. A similar project with the same close proximity circumstances was recently completed along US 31W in Elizabethtown with very good results and was received well within the community. With such a close resemblance of the two projects, we expect the same outcome in Lebanon. Work to mill the old surface and temporarily stripe the road was completed on Monday. Crews are laying the new surface (weather permitting) and final striping today. - CHRIS JESSIE This story was posted on 2014-07-01 13:23:50
