Joyce M. Coomer: Remnants of a soldier's life Dumpster Diving, take two: Poetic prose to contemplate as the nation nears Independence Day, written after the discovery of discards in a dumpster. By Joyce M. Coomer Cookware and tools. Military backpack and Bibles. Coats and Disney toys. Shot glasses and shoes. Rock collection and car wax. Remnants of a life. The young man in the carefully framed Army portrait looks ready to take on the world, his sense of humor showing in his eyes. An acquaintance says he died three years ago before the birth of his son, liked skateboarding, joined the Army out of high school. Who callously considered his memory worthless and discarded his belongings? His photos, his I.D., his story. Is he remembered with fondness? Joyce M. Coomer This story was posted on 2014-06-29 05:54:32
