It was after tobacco cutting season,and my mom and my grandparents told me to go down to the poplar corner and go around the tobacco patch and cut a mess of poke greens. Well I go and about half way into the finishing (filling the brown paper sack) I kept getting this feeling that I was being watched. I would look around, no body in sight, go back to cutting the poke and the feeling hit me again this time I ventured up out of the grassy/wooded area and looked to my left and there stood a wild animal on his hind legs with the biggest eyes I had ever seen. For me it might has well been a Sasquatch! I froze, all I had was the knife that I was cutting the poke with and it was a small knife. How was I going to defend my self from this big animal? When I finally calmed down a little, I ventured out into the tobacco patch and picked up several clumps of dirt and threw at the animal and of course it retreated back into the woods. I took off running back to the house and when I arrived my granddad was the first one I saw and I said, "Granddaddy there is a wild animal down there in the tobacco patch!" Being the kind man he was, he asked me to describe it the whole time he is hugging my shoulders trying to make me feel safe. Granddad asked, "Did it attack you"? I said, "No it just watched me." At that point he laughed and said l had seen a groundhog and that it was just as much afraid of me as I was of it." So when I read the article about the wild animal in Forest Hills, I had to chuckle to myself back to the time I thought I had seen a Sasquatch. - Mary Ann Brown This story was posted on 2014-06-22 15:49:14
