Jon Halsey: High drama in Campbellsville Ears perked up when officer radios dispatch with message: "It's attacking us." Click on headline for more. Click to 68053 for tolerably related incidents By Jon Halsey Running an emergency scanner in the background while reading CM finally paid off this morning but in an unexpected way. I could tell from the voice "traffic" that something was afoot in the Forest Hills area of Campbellsville and as I started listening, it sounded like a wild critter was creating havoc and the woman who called 911 was afraid. My ears perked up when an officer radioed dispatch that "it's attacking us". I immediately started pondering what kind of creature it might be, a panicked deer, a violent dog, maybe even a coyote venturing too close to town folk. After a time, another officer radioed dispatch to ask them to contact Fish & Wildlife to see if they could assist. Not long after, I heard 911 Dispatch talking to Ky Fish & Wildlife. The conversation went like this: 911 Dispatch: I have three Campbellsville PD units tied up in Forest Hills trying to capture a wild animal. They wanted me to contact you to see if you could help by sending someone with a trap. Now I and probably just about every Adair and Taylor countyian,(with the possible exceptions of Campbellites and Columbines) know that a whistle pigs natural demeanor is "Kill everything and let God sort em out" so unless their upending your root crops or digging foot traps in the pasture, it's best to just let em be and go on about your business and let them go on about theirs and all can live the peaceable existence envisioned by Robert Frost in his poem "A Drumlin Woodchuck". The wife called me to breakfast so I don't know how the saga ended or even if it has. - JON HALSEY, Knifley This story was posted on 2014-06-22 12:06:12
