Mrs. Maxie Bowlin, 82, Burkesville, KY (1932-2014)

She was a member of a highly regarded Cumberland Co., KY family with strong family ties also in Adair County, KY, and elsewhere. She was the daughter of the late Millard and Pearl Riddle Spears and the widow of Bernice Bowlin, her husband of 60 years until his death just 15 days prior. She was a member of Parrish Chapel United Methodist Church, a former employee of Sutton Apparel, and the Cumberland County Board of Education.

Mrs. Maxie Bowlin age 82 of Burkesville, KY passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Cumberland Valley Manor, Burkesville, KY.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 2pmCT, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, 304 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with burial in Burkesville Cemetery, N Main Street, Burkesville, KY. Family requests visitation 4pm-9pmCT, Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home.



Mrs. Maxie Bowlin, 82, Burkesville, KY (1932-2014)

Maxie was born on Saturday, February 20, 1932 in Cumberland County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Millard and Pearl Riddle Spears. She passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Cumberland Valley Manor, Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY.

She was a member of Parrish Chapel United Methodist Church, a former employee of Sutton Apparel, and the Cumberland County Board of Education.

She was united in marriage to her husband Mr. Bernice Bowlin on January 28, 1954. They spent 60 years together. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2014.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by five brothers, Granville Spears, Austin Spears, Leslie Spears, Preston Spears, and J.E. Spears; two sisters, Lizzie Ooten and Bonnie Johnson; one granddaughter, Leona Cary; and one great grandson, John Russell Bowlin.

Survivors Include:
  • One son: David Bowlin and his wife Christie of Mayfield, KY

  • One daughter: Cathy Johnson and her companion Bobby Redmon of Columbia, KY

  • One brother; Lester Spears of Burkesville, KY

  • Three sisters: Linda Appleby of Burkesville, KY, Shirley Stone of Gallatin, TN., and Mabel Carter of Black Gnat, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Tiffany Sue Bean, and Chris Bowlin and his wife Brenda

  • Six Great Grandchildren: Blake Bowlin, Landon Bowlin, Alex Cary, Stacy Cary, Phillip Cornelison, Rylie Smith

  • and a host of other relatives and friends
