Campbellsville University Staff Report

Incoming Jeffersonville, Indiana freshman Shelby Osborne will join the Fighting Tiger football program in August 2014 as Campbellsville University's first female football player and the first female defensive back in college.

Following Jeffersonville High School's sectional loss in 2012, Osborne was motivated to join the JHS football program in November 2012. She served as junior varsity captain during her senior season in 2013, playing at corner back, safety, wide reciever and gunner on the punt return team. She appeared in five varsity games at corner back for the Red Devils, including serving as senior captain one game.

In addition to football, Osborne was a member of the track team and played soccer and tennis as an underclassman. Outside of sports, Osborne was active in theater as an actor, tech, playwright and member of the National Thespian Honor Society. In 2014, her play "Backwoods Football" was one of six scripts selected to be published in the "New Voices Anthology" by the Actors Theater of Louisville. She was also a speech and debate national qualifier, a member of the Friends of Rachel leadership board, served on the JHS PRIDE Team, fashion club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Osborne will major in sports medicine at CU. She is the daughter of Robert and Kim Osborne and member of Christ Gospel Church in Jeffersonville, where she was a four-year national qualifier in Bible Quiz and the 2013 national champion.

Media in Kentucky, her home state of Indiana and around the world have given attention to football's first female college defensive back. A few links follow:
