LWC wins third straight Mid-South Conference President's Cup By Chris Wells News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson athletics captured its third straight Mid-South Conference President's Cup during the 2013-14 academic year, conference officials announced on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders scored 111 out of a possible 120 points -- matching last year's point total. The 111 points is tied for the third highest total in Mid-South history. "I applaud the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes and our coaches in winning the 2013-14 President's Cup," Lindsey Wilson athletics director Willis Pooler said. "I also would like to thank the Lindsey Wilson administration, faculty and staff for their continuous support of Blue Raider athletics. "Winning the President's Cup against the quality institutions of the Mid-South Conference is an outstanding achievement," Pooler said. Lindsey Wilson scored the maximum number of points in a conference-best six sports after winning the regular season titles in softball, men's soccer, men's tennis, women's track & field, volleyball and wrestling. Points are awarded based on the final regular season standings for each conference-sanctioned sport. The regular season champion in each sport receives 10 points; second place receives nine points, etc. At the conclusion of the academic year, the top six male and top six female team finishes for each institution generates the institution's overall totals. Five Blue Raider teams just missed on the 10 points with second-place finishes in the regular season standings. Men's golf, women's golf, women's soccer, men's tennis and men's track & field each scored nine points towards Lindsey Wilson's total. Cumberlands (KY) finished second with 105 points followed by Campbellsville (KY) with 98.5 points and Georgetown (KY) with 95 points. Cumberland (TN) finished fifth with 87 points, Pikeville (KY) ended in sixth with 81.5 points and St. Catharine (KY) finished seventh with 68 points. Shawnee State (Ohio) posted 67 points to finish eighth while Rio Grande (Ohio) and Bluefield (VA) complete the final standings with 63.5 and 36.5 points respectively. Lindsey Wilson has won four overall President's Cup -- the Blue Raiders also captured the all-sports trophy in 2006-07, 2011-12 and 2012-13. Cumberlands leads all Mid-South institutions with six outright cups and a tie for a seventh. Georgetown owns two and shared a third with Cumberlands. Campbellsville won a pair of Cups while Cumberland owns one. This story was posted on 2014-05-21 19:58:32
