4 at LWC earn NAIA Women's Tennis All-America honors

Four Blue Raiders earned NAIA Women's Tennis All-America honors, the national office announced on Monday. Alejandra Galvis and Sarah Bernos were named First Team selections, Alicia Rodriguez was named to the Second Team and Anna Gaprindashvili earned Honorable Mention honors.

The four women helped the women's tennis program reach its sixth national semifinals on Friday before falling to eventual national champion Georgia Gwinnett.


Galvis earns her second All-America honor after being named to the All-America Second Team last season. She concluded her season with an 8-5 record playing primarily at the No. 1 singles position. She added a 14-4 doubles record playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles position.

Bernos recorded a 7-5 singles record playing as both the No. 1 and No. 2 seed at singles. She finished her season with a 12-5 doubles record playing every match at the No. 1 doubles position. Rodriguez went 13-4 in singles matches playing a mix of No. 2 and No. 3 positions. She went 15-4 in doubles matches playing at all three positions.

Gaprindashvili finished her season with a 12-4 singles record playing the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions. She went 12-5 in doubles playing primarily in the top-seed doubles pairings.

Georgia Gwinnett and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) led all teams with four selections each. Lindsey Wilson, Xavier (La.) and Auburn Montgomery each had three All-America selections.

Sixteen student-athletes were named to both the first and second teams with 31 student-athletes earning honorable mention honors.

The Blue Raiders finished the 2014 season with a 17-5 season, including winning the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament championship.
