A perfect example of why we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Wk. A salute to student Kaleb Butler and teacher Valerie Taylor, Paraeducator Shirley Holt, and Carlie Riggs for finding a way when money was tight for a badly needed activity board for Kaleb Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Shamarie Claiborne Adair County Middle School student Kaleb Butler needs help with his fine motor skills. His teacher, Valerie Taylor, and paraeducator, Shirley Holt, found numerous activity boards in different teaching supply catalogs, but they were all extremely expensive, ranging in hundreds of dollars. Well, for those of you who know these two ladies you know that didn't go over very well. Nonetheless, they found a way to provide Kaleb with an activity board that is equal, if not better, than the ones in the catalogs without breaking the bank. They enlisted Carlie Riggs who donated his time to create an activity board they designed themselves. The Adair County Board of Education provided roughly $40 dollars to buy the different items that were needed to make the board. Kaleb's board has switches, clasps, and locks of different sizes and shapes. Now with the aid of Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Holt, and his activity board, Kaleb's fine motor skills are improving daily. It is creative teachers and staff like Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Holt who make a difference in the lives of our students. A huge thank you to Carlie Riggs whose donation of time helped a child and his teachers in a time of need. If we each donated our talents to help the students of Adair County, just imagine what could be accomplished. Way to go Kaleb, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Holt, and Carlie Riggs for showing us the way! - SHAMARIE CLAIBORNE, Media Publicity Coordinator, Adair County School District This story was posted on 2014-05-07 13:36:35
