LWC Softball sweeps Cumberlands, 5-1 and 8-0 Krupinski becomes Lindsey Wilson's all-time home run leader in Softball's sweep of Cumberlands. Along with Krupinski, Amanda Trampe, Abbi Goedde, Travatia Bowden and Andrea Whelan all recorded home runs Click on headline for complete story By Charles Balcom WILLIAMSBURG, KY - Powerful hitting and strong pitching led to another Mid-South Conference sweep as the eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team took down Cumberlands (KY) 5-1 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon, April 19, 2014, at Briar Creek Softball Field. With the 36th home run of her career in game one, Kristina Krupinski became the Lindsey Wilson all-time home run leader passing former Blue Raider Jamie Williams who set the mark of 35 from 2009-12. The Blue Raider (37-5, 23-3 MSC) bats were zeroed in all day as they combined for 18 hits including five home runs in the sweep. Along with Krupinski, Amanda Trampe, Abbi Goedde, Travatia Bowden and Andrea Whelan all recorded home runs on the day. In the circle, the pitching duo of Casey Bryan and Jordan Hood both hurled complete games in the sweep. Bryan (18-2) allowed just one run on five hits in game one while striking out six without issuing a walk in her 14th complete game of the year. Hood (15-2) pitched her 10th complete game of the season including her sixth shutout in game two. The junior allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts without issuing a walk in the five-inning game. After a scoreless first inning in game one, the Blue Raiders broke the tie in the top of the second when Bailey Mize reached on an error. She later scored on a single by Bowden to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson added three runs in the top of the fifth when Madison Scott walked and Krupinski singled to put runners on first and third. Trampe stepped to the plate and wasted no time as she swung at the first pitch she saw and sent it over the left field fence to give the Blue Raiders a 4-0 lead. The home run was Trampe's team-leading 13th of the season. Cumberlands (13-26, 10-16 MSC) scored their lone run of the day in the bottom of the fifth after Tori Poma led off with a single and later scored on a single by Kenly Lambert. Lindsey Wilson added their final run, Krupinski's record-breaking 36th home run, in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 5-1. Bryan went 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning to complete the game. Lambert (1-4) took the loss after giving up five runs - four earned - on nine hits with three walks in the complete-game effort. Game two saw Lindsey Wilson get off to a hot start as they quickly loaded the bases in the top of the first. Mize and Goedde both singled to score a run and Bowden took a four-pitch walk to score another to give the Blue Raiders a quick 3-0 lead. Lindsey Wilson scored another three runs in the top of the third after Mize reached on a walk and Goedde and Bowden went deep for back-to-back home runs to extend the lead to 6-0. The final two runs came in the fourth as Whelan led off with a solo shot and Trampe doubled home Krupinski for the 8-0 lead. Hood was untouchable to begin the game in the circle as she retired the first ten batters she faced, including six strikeouts, before giving up a single in the fourth. She pitched around an error and a single in the bottom of the fifth to preserve the 8-0 lead, ending the game after five innings. Whelan led the team with four hits on the day while recording an RBI.
