CJE candidate Joe Rogers: Plans for coping with loss of FoL Jobs Second response to Election 2014, Issue Question: What will I do, if elected, or re-elected, to address the employment and economic problems created by the closing of the Fruit of the Loom Plant at Jamestown? CJE Ann Melton's answer came 6 days ago. Mike Stephens responded today. The letters are being posted in order of receipt. Issues/Election 2014: Responses to Fruit of Loom Closing From Joe Rogers, Candidate for Democratic Nomination for CJE We are all aware of the tragic announcement that Jamestown Fruit of the Loom will be closing their doors. The question was presented to me, "If I were elected Adair County Judge Executive, what could be done to help our fellow Adair Countians overcome this devastating loss?" I have several ideas to help those affected by the shut down and ultimately the entire community. First, I would pledge to work with the neighboring Russell County Judge Executive, Judge Robertson, as well as the executives of other counties affected, to establish unemployment extensions and job re-training to streamline those affected back into our work force. Secondly, I would work diligently with our Industrial Development Board to strengthen and improve the infrastructure that we already have in place. We must have a Judge that is motivated to recruit jobs and industry for our county in order for Adair County to move forward and prosper. Adair County has many assets that are appealing to industries such as Louie B. Nunn Parkway, Lindsey Wilson College, and Adair County's own educational systems, providing the community with work-ready individuals. I would work tirelessly with all realms of government, from our local officials up to our State and Federal governments to attract new jobs to our already beautiful Adair County. I would establish a good working relationship with surrounding County Judges and elected officials as well. In doing so, we can attract industry for our entire area. Kentucky's logo is "Kentucky Proud". I am "Kentucky Proud" and want to impact the county in such a way that we can all be "Adair County Proud". If we all work together, we can and will move Adair County forward to ensure a positive outlook for our children's and grandchildren's future. - Joe Rogers Comments are especially invited from Candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate State Senate, State House of Representatives, County Judge Executive posts, and Magistrates in the counties in CM's Primary Service area of Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties, which will be affected by the closing. We suggest statements of up to one-half page in length. This story was posted on 2014-04-15 14:15:22
