ACSO investigates accidental shooting in Knifley

Victim is airlifted from Knifley School to UK

News from the Adair County Sheriff's Department

The Adair Sheriff's Office responded with Adair EMS and investigated an accidental shooting Sunday night, April 13, 2014, on Mt. Tussell Road, Knifley, KY.

Christopher Wheeler, 23, of Liberty, KY, was at a residence with a friend when he attempted to break down a .40 caliber pistol and failed to check the chamber of the gun when it went off.



The bullet struck Wheeler's hand through and through and also pierced his thigh through and through.

Wheeler was transported by EMS to the old Knifley school where he was immediately air lifted to UK Medical Center, Lexington, KY for non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is being investigated as an accident. Members of the Knifley Fire Department also responded. - Deputy Adam Cravens
