Nunn/Cumberland Parkway in Metcalfe County, located between Edmonton and Columbia, KY, Wednesday afternoon, April 9, 2014. "New infrastructure and development connect communities with more opportunities to grow and thrive," said Gov. Beshear. "This project opens the door for improved access to current and future economic development in Metcalfe County." The $9.68 million project includes construction of a new U.S. 68 bridge over the parkway. The new bridge will connect motorists to the parkway with a diamond interchange. The project will also reconstruct sections of Harvey Hurt Road, Industrial Access Road (KY 3524) and KY 1243. Crews have begun grading and bridge work, as well as utility relocation and right of way clearance. The project is expected to be complete by the end of the year. Currently, the parkway has only a single interchange in Metcalfe County - three miles west of Edmonton. Traffic from the industrial park on the east side of Edmonton must pass through the downtown to reach the interchange. "Infrastructure plays a critical role in bringing growth to our communities," said Sen. David Givens, of Greensburg. "I look forward to seeing the impact these projects will have." "These two highways serve as major routes for the people and businesses in Metcalfe County," said Rep. Bart Rowland, of Tompkinsville. "I applaud everyone involved in bringing this improved interchange to reality, not only to help provide infrastructure in hopes of drawing new industry to the county but also provide greater safety for those who use the highways on a daily basis." "I am so proud of this project and the benefits that will come with it. Our local industry will be able to greatly prosper, and hopefully it will also bring some new industry to our area," Metcalfe County Judge-Executive Greg Wilson said. "I would like to thank Mayor Garrett and all the Industrial Board members and state officials for helping push this important project forward." "It's going to be a great benefit to the city and county," Edmonton Mayor Howard D. Garrett said. "It will help our industrial park in development and access. I appreciate the legislature and Governor Beshear for the work they did in getting passed." L-M Asphalt Partners Ltd., of Lexington, was awarded the contract.
