Gov. Beshear expected for Edmonton interchange groundbreaking

At Metcalfe Recycling Center, 990 Industrial Drive, Edmonton, KY, at 3pmCT, Wed., April 9, 2014
Judge Wilson said predictions are that the interchange will be open by as early as November 1, 2014

Metcalfe County Judge Executive Greg Wilson said this morning that Governor Steve Beshear, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer, Edmonton Mayor Howard Garrett, will be joining him at groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Cumberland/Louie B Nunn Parkway & US 68/Greensburg Road Interchange. The ceremony will be at the Metcalfe County Recycling Center, 990 Industrial Road, Edmonton, KY at 3pmCT, Wednesday, April 9, 2014.

The public is invited to the event.

Judge Wilson said that the interchange will mean a lot to the people of Metcalfe County. "It will save as much as 10-15 minutes on many trips," he said. He said that for people on the East Side of the County, trips to Glasgow Road shopping area of Edmonton, to Glasgow and Bowling Green will be much closer, not considering the time savings. For travellers to Columbia, Lexington, Lake Cumberland and the Somerset area, trips will be shortened by 5-6 miles, as well.

The groundbreaking had been delayed because of weather. But work on the interchange is well underway. "I'm told that they're expecting to have a ribbon cutting this year, maybe as early as November 1, 2014," Judge Wilson said.
