The pictures which accompany this item are of a controlled fire by the Fish and Wildlife Department on the Jeff Biggs farm off of KY 55 north of Columbia, KY, The burn off is a periodic requirement in connection with the CREP (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) - USDA program that farmers can voluntary participate in.

In these pictures you can see where there is a burn ring around a field and then the field is burnt inward from the out sides.

There is always an outlet for the wildlife to escape from the fire. After the fire there is nothing but total blackened fields, but the fields will soon re-establish its growth of vegetation. There were something near 250 acres burned this day and even into the night scenes.

The pictures were taken by Janet Biggs, April 1, 2014.
