Evan Alton Shirley age 89 of Knob Lick died Monday March 31, 2014 at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 2pmCT, Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Big Meadow Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 4pm-8pmCT, Tuesday, April 1, 2014, and after 9amCT, Wednesday at the Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY.



He was the son of the late Nathan Evin and Millie Gladys Kidd Shirley.

A Marine veteran of World War II he served in the South Pacific for three years. He was a member of the Big Meadow Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon since 1961 and Sunday school teacher for several years. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Nadine Shirley of Knob Lick, KY, and the following:
  • One son: Timothy and wife Michelle Shirley of Glasgow, KY

  • One sister: Lavonne Anderson of Edmonton, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Whitney Shirley, and Blaine Shirley both of Glasgow, KY

  • Three step grandchildren: Peyton, Ty, and Camdyn Johnson

  • Three nieces: Shirley Anderson, Cindy Garrett, and Nancy Jones
