Project in Nelson Co. awarded To widen southern remainder Of KY 245 New configuration aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (March 19, 2014) - Widening the remaining section of KY 245 in Bardstown to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety will begin this year. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently awarded a $15 million dollar contract to upgrade the southern section of the road to five lanes. Nally & Haydon, LLC along with American Engineers, Inc. make up the design-build team of contractors working on the project which spans just over two miles, roughly between the US 150 intersection and the US 62 intersection. With KY 245 north of the US 62 intersection already widened to five lanes, this project provides a consistent lane configuration through all of Bardstown. Preliminary work will begin soon but it will be some time before any visible construction takes place. The project has a completion date of November 1, 2015. Increasing safety for motorists continues to be high priority. The KY 245 project is being followed by a proposed plan to relieve congestion along US 150 from the KY 245 intersection through the Bluegrass Parkway interchange. While goals of both plans are related, the US 150 plan is being developed as an entirely separate project and is currently in the final design phase. The US 150 plan awaits funding for utility relocation, right-of-way acquisition and construction. - Chris Jessie This story was posted on 2014-03-20 10:03:36
