Patrick Willis: How about a word of thanks for those risking lives

'If you think its hard to drive a four wheel drive on snow and ice, try a 25,000 pound dump truck loaded with salt and a plow.' - PATRICK WILLIS

By Patrick Willis
Personal commentary

Ok I understand everybody's complaints about road conditions and how they are not as we wish they were but lets start by saying "Thanks." I mean these guys are risking their on lives to try and maintain the roads the best that they can.

There are only so many dump trucks and the trucks are assigned to certain areas.

Now with the ice and snow that we just had I am sure the road departments are just trying to make it passable in case of emergencies.

People must understand that there are countless miles in this county that must be maintained and the main heavily traveled roads are the ones that get the most attention.

Lets factor in the temps and the thaw freeze effect. Let it thaw out and the temps drop below freezing and then you are in the same boat again.

In closing, let us support each other and be thankful for the effort the state and county road departments are putting forth.

If you think its hard to drive a four wheel drive on snow and ice, try a 25,000 pound dump truck loaded with salt and a plow.

It's in these situations that the road workers are risking their lives for us.

For the record I do not work for the county or the state but I do work road construction. - Patrick Willis
