Online Transfer Madness college fair set for Wed. March 5, 2014 Reminder will be in CM Events at start time, 9amCT/10amET for the 12 hour event. Lindsey Wilson College and Campbellsville University included in TransferMadness.org/schools By Sue Patrick News from Council on Postsecondary Education College students looking to transfer college credits or associate degrees to a four-year institution can connect with those institutions and get questions answered during a 12-hour online Transfer Madness fair. Students can get the information they need to continue their college educations by logging on to http://transfermadness.org on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, from 9amCT/10amET-9pmCT/10pmET. Now in its second year, Transfer Madness connects students from the 16 colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System to advisors from more than 20 four-year institutions. Students can chat live with admissions representatives and advisors at the universities of their choice, download e-brochures, learn about scholarships, and register for prizes. Governor Steve Beshear, Bob King, president of the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE), Dr. Michael McCall, president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), and Dr. Carl Rollins, executive director for the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, spoke at the news conference as did transfer students who talked about the importance of transfer credits to their educational and career goals. "We have worked hard to create a 'transfer-friendly' postsecondary education system," said Gov. Beshear. "And we are making progress, with an almost 30 percent increase in KCTCS transfers to public and private institutions over the past five years." The Transfer Madness roster includes all eight of the state's public universities, the 16 colleges of KCTCS, 15 independent colleges and universities, and two for-profit institutions. Also represented with booths at the fair include the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority, staff from CPE's KnowHow2Transfer.org website, and CollegeFish.org, an online resource to promote two-year completion and transfer pathways. "Our campuses have stepped up in a big way to smooth the transfer process by creating clear pathways between associate degrees to bachelor's degrees. These pathways will save students time and money, and Transfer Madness will help them develop a winning transfer game plan," said Bob King. "One of the key success factors in the transfer game is connecting with and developing a relationship with four-year institutions prior to attendance. That is why this Transfer Madness event is so important, and a real slam dunk for everyone involved," said KCTCS's Dr. McCall. House Bill 160, signed into law in 2010, was a game changer in smoothing the transfer process. "House Bill 160 provided the groundwork for what would become KnowHowToTransfer.org," said Dr. Carl Rollins, the bill's primary sponsor and now the executive director for the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority. "We wanted the focus to be on content knowledge, not course numberings, between the two-year and four-year colleges. Now students can take advantage of cost savings by beginning their degree at a two-year school and finishing at a four-year institution, with no repeat coursework or lost credits." High school students who plan to attend a community college before transferring and four-year college students considering a transfer are also invited to participate. Organizers hope the convenience of an online transfer fair will boost student participation since students can access the event at a time that suits their school, family and work schedules. The event is sponsored by the Council on Postsecondary Education and the participating colleges and universities.
