NWS warns of wildfire risks today, Feb. 27, 2014

Adair CJE Ann Melton urges extreme caution with any outdoor burning today, but has not as yet issued an executive order banning outdoor burning today in the county.

The National Weather Service in Louisville is warning of an elevated wildfire risk today across Southern Kentucky, including Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties:
"A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH THE REGION TODAY...BRINGING INCREASING WINDS ALONG WITH A VERY DRY AIR MASS. RELATIVE HUMIDITIES THIS AFTERNOON WILL CRASH TO NEAR 25 PERCENT. WITH WINDS AT 10 TO 15 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS AND FUEL MOISTURE HOVERING AROUND 8 PERCENT...THERE WILL BE AN INCREASED RISK FOR WILDFIRE GROWTH THIS AFTERNOON. EXTREME CAUTION SHOULD BE USED IF PLANNING TO BURN TODAY. AN UPGRADE TO A RED FLAG WARNING MAY BE NEEDED LATER THIS MORNING IF CONDITIONS WARRANT."
